FAQ

Q. I am anxious about joining, should I just turn up?

A. Firstly it is natural to feel nervous about trying something new. We all remember our first day of school and our first day at work. Everyone also remembers their first day on the mats and the feeling of not knowing what to do. It is completely normal and once you take that step of walking through the door, you will see you have nothing to worry about. Drop us a message to book your class now. We are a friendly club with a great atmosphere to train in. Follow this link to read some of our Reviews

Q. I do not think I am fit enough to start training, should I get fit first?

A. This is another common misconception. Nobody starts running and can instantly run a marathon so why would any other sport be any different? Over the years we have had students start with both high and low levels of fitness, but they soon come to realise that it does not matter. The fitness you will achieve training with us is fit for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. You will learn to relax, control your breathing and use technique to control and beat your opponent.

Q. Okay I am convinced to come along and try a class, what does it cost?

A. We offer a drop in fee of £5 per class to enable you to try it out BJJ at our academy. We do not expect you to sign up to our membership program without seeing if it is for you first.

Q. What should I wear, do I need to buy a Gi first?

A. When you first start, any comfortable sports wear is fine. It is whatever you feel happy wearing. Remember that BJJ is close contact grappling. So no zips or buttons. Eventually you will be expect to purchase yourself a Gi. They are not especially expensive and tend to last at least 3 years.

Q. Do I need to bring anything else with me?

A. It is a good idea to bring a drink of water or juice and a towel. Like any sporting activity, expect to get hot and sweaty at times. Other than that, just bring an open mind and willingness to learn.

Q. What age groups are your classes for?

A. We have regular Kids class running on Monday’s, Wednesday’, and Sunday’s. The age range is from 8 - 15 years old. Our adult program is for 16 years and above.

Q. What are the rules of the matches?
